Rules and Regulations

The KIS library is open to students and staff of KIS. The library department consists of two libraries, the High School Library on the Highclerc Campus, and the Elementary School Library on the Ganga Campus.

When issued with an ID card, users undertake to abide by the rules and regulations of the Library.

ID cards

  • At the beginning of each academic year, each member will be issued a bar-coded ID card by the Principal’s office. In order to borrow books, members need to bring their ID cards to the circulation desk in the library.

  • The library card is normally valid for one year. It should be treated as a valuable document and the holder is responsible for ensuring that it is not used by any unauthorized person. If the card is lost, stolen or otherwise misplaced, the Library must be notified at once so that its unauthorized use can be blocked.

  • If a member loses his / her ID card, a duplicate ID card can be obtained from the Principal’s office. A sum of Rs 200 will be charged for the duplicate ID card.

Charges

  • If a member loses a book taken out on his / her library card, the current cost of the book + an additional Rs 200 (Rs 100 towards fine + Rs 100 towards replacement charges) will be charged.

Ipods

  • IPods are not allowed in the library. If headphones or Ipods are seen in any section in the library, they will be confiscated and handed over to the High School Coordinator in accordance with the new Ipod policy.

Library books

  • Available books can be checked out from the library for a period of 14 days. This period may be extended for a further period of 14 days 3 times – if the books have not been reserved by others. To further extend the loan, the books must be taken to the library for renewal.

  • The maximum number of books that can be checked out per student is 5 books at a time. The limit for staff members is 8 books at a time.

  • Reservation of books
Books not available on the shelves can be reserved by asking the library staff to place a hold on the book for you. If you want to borrow a book that is available in any of the 2 school libraries and require it to be sent over, please complete the same reservation form at the circulation desk.

  • Books for overnight reading
Each user can borrow one reference book for overnight reading.

Other media

Library users may check out CD ROMs for a period of 24 hours. The limit is one CD ROM per member at any given time.
